Founded in Gloucester, MA in 1989, Intershell has maintained its position as the premier source for Live Surf Clams, Live North Atlantic Scallops, Live Razor Clams, Wellfleet Oysters, Fresh Monkfish Liver, and many other seafood products both live, fresh, and frozen in our Domestic as well as our Export Markets.  Since its founding, Intershell has remained a nimble player in the seafood business. Today it is known for many quality seafood products other than its live offerings.

Our early beginnings were based on supplying the United States sushi distribution channels with our high quality live shellfish and prepared sashimi grade products.  Since then, we have grown in many areas in our wholesale and online business.

Intershell is the leading provider of live shellfish to all cities in the US & Pacific Rim

Our Facility

We are now spread out between our own 55,000 square foot Blackburn processing facility and our Commercial Street wharf facility, both in located Gloucester.  At Blackburn, our staff of 70 people shuck all kinds of clams, cut all species of fish, prepare several signature food products which are retail ready, as well as purchase, pack and sell all East coast species.  At the Commercial Street wharf, we receive various live seafood from our local harvesters.

Our delivery system is based on a fleet of 11 vehicles, co-operation from all airlines, common carriers, and our great team of employees who have sharp eyes for the quality our customers require. At all times, our staff does their very best to ensure our customers are happy with the goods they receive.

Our Fleet

We now operate 7 company owned fishing vessels which range in size from 55’-80’ that are constantly working (and fixing) so that we may control our own supply in the Live Surf Clam, Live Scallop, and Live Hokkigai (Seasonal – Summer) markets.  If you are in Hyannis, New Bedford or Gloucester, you may see one or a few of our vessels: Tom Slaughter 1, Tom Slaughter 2, Tom Slaughter 3, Bing Bing, Hotate, Rose Bing, or Providenza.
