Red tide is a natural phenomenon caused by a higher-than-normal concentration of microscopic algae. While these algae are not harmful to the shellfish themselves, they can produce toxins that accumulate in the shellfish, making them unsafe for human consumption. Our priority is always the safety and well-being of our customers.

Our Ipswich steamer clams are sourced from local clam harvesters who “hand scratch” them fresh from sand flats on the coast of Gloucester, Essex, and Ipswich, Massachusetts. Our steamer clams range in color from white to a dark grey color, a trait they adopt from the sand of the flats they are harvested from.
